    3. Dear Listeners I'm making a final attempt in the desperate hope to find some information about my great grandfather James Campbell, who I believe lived and died in Cradock. I unfortunately only have the following loose bits of information and would be most greatful for any additional information. James Nicholl CAMPBELL b. 21 April 1813 Woodhaven,Scotland Arrived in South Africa either 1852 or 1854 Occ. Schoolmaster and London missionary d. Cradock, ZAF (this is my original ancestor) James Nicholl Campbell Married firstly, by special licence, on 25 April 1862, to Hendrina Henriette Schimper; and secondly in Kimberley, on 16 July 1872, to Johanna Magdalena Gildenhuizen, and had issue: b1. James Nicholl, born 27 Sept 1873, bapt. at Dutoitspan[Kimberley], 8 Feb 1874. ?? I think this James Nicholl, born, 1873, could have been my great grandfather & maybe the son of the above-mentioned ?? We also have the following written information left by my great grandmother: Quentin Campbell, wagonmaker, born in Cradock and married at Graaff-Reinet on 23 April 1867 to Elizabeth Catharina, daughter of Piet Loots. Died 1910. This is somewhat confusing and I struggle to understand how it fits in. Quentin could have been my great great grandfather's brother???? Conrad Bosch UK

    3. Hi Conrad, I've just read your request: have you looked at the Naairs site? I see there are 2 Liquidation and Distribution accounts for James Nicholl CAMPBELL, dated 1908 and 1910, available from the Cape Town archives. There are 5 records for Quentin CAMPBELL, including a Death Notice, which may mention his parents. If you're patient, I can look this up for you at the LDS in Parktown, Jhb - I'm not sure when I'm going in, hopefully next week. Unfortunately they usually only have the death notices, but not L&D accounts, or wills. Will have a look there for your James Nicholl CAMPBELL, who knows, he may be lurking amongst their records. I have a book which lists the LOOTS family in South Africa, and will see if I can find your Elizabeth Catharina in that. If you already have this info, please let me know. Kind regards, Bea Loots On 2011/01/23 12:28 PM, CONRAD BOSCH wrote: > > > > > Dear Listeners > > I'm making a final attempt in the desperate hope to find some information about my great grandfather James Campbell, who I believe lived and died in Cradock.
