    2. Burkes
    3. I am trying to garner any information about the Burkes of Uitenhage. Michael Burke (1828 -1891)a shoemaker from Kilkenny in Ireland married Mary d:1881) they had offspring :Mary Kate married Alexander Joseph Heath of Kimberley; Sarah Jane married John Henry Smith; and Michael John married Nellie Bell daughter of William Bell on 27 May 1904. Michael John Burke and Nellie Bell had offspring viz: Eric Michael who died a Marist Brother, Ella, Joseph, Thomas William and Janet. There were reports of another Burke family in Uitenhage who lived in Kilkenny `cottages, and were possibly related. I am interested in possible links between the Kilkenny Burkes in Uitenhage. And,any information about how the Burkes got to Uitenhage and when. On 19 Oct 2012, at 9:00 AM, south-africa-cape-town- request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. Hi Merle the Anglican records are online at familysearch.com under the collections section The Anglicans were called The Church of the Province of South Africa. Maclear would have come under the diocese of Grahamstown. https://familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://familysearch.org/searchapi/search/collection/1468076 If Maclear or Ugie do not appear as individual churches the minister may have been a circulating minister and would have come from another parish to perform ceremonies on a monthly basis, so look in the nearest parishes to Maclear Regards Gwyn On 18 October 2012 18:22, Merle Grant <megbots51@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi I was wondering if any one can help??? where can I find old wedding > certs from the early 1900"s ( !905/1906)Anglican church in the Maclear > Ugie area?? > > Thanks Merle Grant > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
