    3. Somebody named TERESA MADELINE TEEAR has submitted material to the Family Search Pedigree Resource File which looks as though it may be connected to my family research. Are you a member of this List, Teresa? If so, would love to hear from you. Back from a totally unexpected holiday oversea - we were off, off and away when the opportunity occurred! - and armed with dozens of pix of ancestral places for the Trott family. What a thrill it all was.... Unfortunately the Exeter Record Office was closed for moving, or I think I would be there yet. Go well! Ivy Trott.

    2. Michele Shaw
    3. Hi Researchers, I'm looking for more information on the McCallums. George Thomas was born in Cape Town in Nov 24, 1867. He was the son of Alexander (Wallace) McCallum born April 7, 1829 and Christina Frances Helena Heintjies born in Germany, in 1844. They were married April 23, 1860 in Cape Town. They went on to have 12 children. What became of Who did Alexander Wallace born 18 Nov 1862, marry? Frederika Margaret Christina born 14 Aug 1869 Peter Christin born 25 Dec 1875 Henry born 1873 William Henry born 11 Oct 1877 Mary born 1879 The rest I can account for, but what happened to the above children?? Alexander died 21 July 1891. 1. What became of Christina? 2. Did she change her name to Grace? 3. Did she marry a 'Livingstone' 4. Did she own a 'bar'? 5. Was Alexander's second name Wallace? 6. What of Alexander's parents Samuel and Mary? 7. Did they immigrate? 8. What was Mary's maiden name? Please, please does anyone know this family? I have had lotsof promised leads, but no follow-throughs. There has been lots said about what happened, but what really happened? Regards Michele Shaw --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Hello Peter St John's is the Anglican church in Wynberg. (not Episcopal). Their baptism records start around 1832 - and yes it is possible to access them. If they lived in Wynberg in the 1850's and were Anglican then I am sure they would have married there. Then there is St George's Cathedral in Cape Town itself which also dates from 1834. The Cathedral records up to 1900 are housed at the Cape Town Archives. There were other Anglican churches nearer Wynberg such as St Paul's Rondebosch which I am sure was also there in the 1850s and St Saviour's Claremont - but my money is on St John's if they were a Wynberg family. I am not sure about Anglican churches in Paarl. 1. CROCKETTs in Wynberg and Paarl Churches
    2. Peter Forrest
    3. Hi Everyone Your help in my search for my CROCKETT relations has led me to Wynberg and Paarl. With Maureen's help I now know that the wife of EDWARD CHARLES CROCKETT, who was called SUSANNA MARIA GIRD, was born in Wynberg on 28 Feb 1835 and that her three younger siblings were born in Paarl. I have looked up these two places on the IGI to see if there are any micro films of the church records available, but there are none for the Anglican (is it Episcopal in South Africa?) church. My question are: 1. Is there an Anglican church in Wynberg and Paarl? If so is it possible to get access to the church records? Can I write to the vicar? 2. Would these churches have been around in about 1850? If not where would they have gone to get married and have their children baptised. Would they have gone to Cape Town cathedral? I'm sorry but my geography is very sketchy and this may be a silly question. 3. What I am now trying to find is the record of Edward Crockett's marriage to Susanna and I am hoping that it might be in one of these two places. best wishes Peter Forrest Newcastle upon Tyne, England

    3. Hi Peter Yes, St. Judes still does exist and you can write to them at the following address Oudtshoorn St Jude Box 187 Oudtshoorn Postal Code 6620 GEO 1860- 1860- 1860- They still have registers dating back to 1860 kind regards Heather - whose relatives come from Newcastle on Tyne as well Heather's South African Genealogy Help List at www.genealogy.co.za has moved to www.ancestry.mweb.co.za and soon to www.familytree.co.za Join the Cape Town Family History Society www.ancestors.co.za/society/socweb.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Forrest" <pdjk@chgos.freeserve.co.uk> To: <SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 03, 2004 5:04 PM Subject: [South-Africa-Cape-Town] CROCKETTS, St Judes parish, Oudtshoon Hi Everyone First a big thank you particularly to Heather MacAlister for introducing me to the National Archives. They have already helped me with find several bits of missing information. I wonder if you could help me with the following: I have a photocopy of part of the baptism certificate for my grand mother CONSTANCE ADA CROCKETT. Unfortunately part is torn off so I don't know what is missing. What is on it is as follows: Day of birth: (only partially distinguishable) 21 January 1887, Parents: Rowland Henry Vaughton Crockett & Helen Abode: Oudtshoon Profession (of father): artist Sponsors: Peter ?--- Blant, Fanny Blant, Ada Soulby Ceremony performed by: Percy E. H. Hilyard, assistant curate. ' ....a true extract from the register of baptisms of St Jude's Church, Oudtshoon, Cape of Good Hope.' Signed: Alfred Morris, Rector My first question is - where is Oudtshoon and does St Jude's still exist? Secondly is the Baptism register available for look ups? The reason I am asking is that I believe that 2 of Constance's brothers were born in South Africa as I have not been able to find them in the UK. They are ROWLAND GEORGE CROKETT born possibly 21 May 1881 FRANCIS REGINALD CROCKETT born about 1883, died an infant. I now know that their father ROWLAND HENRY VAUGHTON CROCKETT died in 1903 in the Cape Town area thanks to the National Archives. I was wondering if there might be a burial record in St Judes. I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to follow this up. many thanks Peter Forrest Newcastle upon Tyne.
