    3. Hi, St Paul's had a very generous donor called William ANDERSON during the 19th Century. I think his daughter was a Mary - she donated two houses to the parish which we kept until the Group Areas Act moved out our tenants then the Parish sold them and kept the money as a trust fund to give to the elderly and destitute parishioners. Mary died in the early 1900s so looks like a different ANDERSON. 3. Hi do you have any details as to the origins of your Walker family ? My grgrandfather was Henry John WALKER and his brother was Charles William WALKER born 1872 and his wife was Lilly GARNISS - but that is all I know about them. My grgrandfather came to South Africa sometime in the late 1880's or early 1890's (he married in Ficksburg in 1892). So his brother could have followed him some years later - I would need to know a little more history to know if there is a connection. 3. Hi Vivienne, Thank you so much. Thomas Henry Lymer was born in Wolverhampton, England in 1874. He had moved to London with his parents and siblings before leaving for S. Africa in the mid 1890's. He never returned to England. He was a sheet metal worker. Yes I have tried Ancestry24 and traced some papers in the Cape Town archives relating to a loan and a house he built at Selbourne Road, Woodstock. The papers showed that his wifes name was Nina and she was born about 1881 and that his three daughters were born in 1907, 1909 and 1911. When he paid off the loan he stated that he wanted to sell the property and downsize as his children were now all married. He worked for many years for a firm called W J Cutler in Capetown. I live in England and when I paid for the papers from the Archives I actually sent Rand in payment. They were not expensive it just took a couple of months. If you would like the contact details of the gentlemen who dealt with my request let me know or if there is anything else I can help you with. Thanks again, Sally -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of E & V Waugh Sent: 21 April 2010 16:22 To: [email protected] Subject: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Thomas Henry LYMER Hello Sally I am going to start a new thread for Thomas Henry LYMER so that people can see the name in the subject column. I don't know anything about the LYMER family but I have sent off your e mail to a relative who lived there a few decades ago. Hopefully she will know something. Failing that I will remember the name and forward anything that I think will be relevant. Have you tried Ancestry24? I subscribed yesterday and was truly amazed at what you can download ( if only I had more hours in my day). The only thing is I haven't worked out how to pay for the documents that are not free - BUT a lot of the documents are free. Heather tells me that you can start forums for people researching specific names. I haven't worked out how to do this yet. Good Luck Vivienne ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
