Hi Kevin, Here's what there is in the original 1890-1897 timeframe that you have given me. Sorry, but I don't have anything prior to 1890. Mr. F.W.BAXTER - date of birth unknown - sailed Southampton to Cape Town on board ss Tartar departed 1 February 1896. He was single and APPEARS to have been travelling alone, but on the same vessel, same sailing, we also have....... Mr. S. BAXTER - aged 22, occupation draper, English nationality, and single - sailed Southampton to East London on board ss Tartar departed 1 February 1896 (Steerage). The only other male BAXTERs in this same timeframe are:- Mr. BAXTER - no initials, forenames or date of birth, but of Scottish nationality - sailed Southampton to Natal on board ss Mexican departed 25 July 1890. He was single and appears to have been travelling alone. No other information available Mr. BAXTER - no initials, forenames or date of birth, but of English nationality - sailed Southmpton to Cape Town on borad ss Mexican departed 19 August 1893. He was married and was travelling with a Miss BAXTER. No other information available. The second one looks hopeful and if you'd like me to send the passenger manifest image offlist, I will happily do so. (It will be quite a large file). I tried to find Samuel on the 1891 Census, but the nearest match I can find is a 20 year old commercial traveller boarding in Leicester but born in Beckenham. Perhaps you know better! Does anybody have any info or know where I can find some on the sailing barque the Stella, of I think Norwegian registry which sank in a storm off Algoa Bay in the 1800's some time. She was carrying a load of timber out of Boston harbour USA. My Great Grandfather, Omund Rasmussen, was one of the ships crew and I am attempting to confirm this and the year that the ship went down. Hi Maurice I have two Baxters : 1) FREDERICK WILLIAM --- b 31-12-1857 (Bromley , forest Town , Kent) , would have sailed +/- 1875-1885 2) SAMUEL --- b 1-6-1873 (Bromley , Kent) , would have sailed 1893-1896 As far as I know they were both single when they traveled --- not confirmed . Hi Heather and other listers, Following on from the query about St. John the Evangelist in Cape Town (that made interesting reading!) I have a church/cathedral that I am interested in. St. Albans Cathedral, Pretoria prior to 1957. My great grandparents Herbert Howard BROWNE Jnr and Jessie Anne KIDWELL I've just discovered (per kind favour of Tessa King) were married in St. Albans Cathedral, Pretoria, Transvaal Republic on the 27th April 1881. Entry No. 49 (the only one in that year!) Herbert Howard BROWNE 24 (he was actually 26) Batchelor Farmer Havre-Klip, Pretoria (it's now District Springs) by Banns Consent None Jessie Anne KIDWELL 24 Spinster Hazeldene, Pretoria Consent None The witnessis H.B. Premuir, H.H. BROWNE & Minnie BROWNE (parents of the groom). I have managed to find a photograph of St. Albans Cathedral, Schoeman Street, Pretoria, but this building was only built in 1957.... Do you (or any other lister) happen to have a photograph of the Cathedral as it was before the 1957 construction? I am led to believe that part of the original was built from corregated iron....which sounds about right! Hi All! I am trying to find the location of where Short Street in Cape Town used to be. The more modern road system has taken over its location. It used to be down in the Dock Road area. My wife had family that lived there. Of course it would be marvelous if there was a picture around of the street but I guess that is too much to hope for. Thank you so much everyone for the answer to this problem and for the links to the calendar sites. I wish that all my genealogy problems were answered so easily. Funny enough the clue to the age of the photo was staring me in the face but I didn't see it until a few minutes ago. Thank you again for the prompt replies. Hello Mathematicians! Here is a problem to solve: What years for the period 1910 - 1950 would 30th June have been a Saturday? I have a photo I wish to date with this written on the back : "taken Saturday afternoon 30th June". I believe that there is an algorithm for working out the answer but this is beyond me. It is not evident how to google this. Greetings to Fellow Genealogical Researchers, My name is Nigel Tyson from Perth, Western Australia; migrated here from Ireland in 1969. Back in 2008 I received generous help from a gentleman in Cape Town with a request for a relative I located there, who recorded and emailed the estate papers. I have located another relative who migrated to Cape Town in 1924 and died there in 1927. May I please request if someone, at their convenience if they could locate the Estate Papers for: Depot: KAB Source: MOOC Type: LEER Volume_No: 6/9/3130 System: 01 Reference: 14646 Part: 1 Description MORSE, FRANCIS PERCY. ESTATE PAPERS Starting: 19270000 Ending: 19270000 If possible I'm trying to find out if he married, date, and place: dob and names of any children; and his date of death, cause, place and where buried, or any information that you may be able to obtain. I'm also prepared to help with genealogical search for relations of yours in Western Australia in return. Thank you for your help Nigel Tyson
