Hi All I wonder if any of you can assist. I am trying to find out more about the Augustyn history. I can only track as far back as my great grandad in Calvinia. All the information points to us coming to south africa as slaves from Poland, however I can not get any more data on this and cant confirm it. I have gone through ship logs however cant find the names. There was two families that came over my family's names for the oldest was all Jan Abraham Augustyn. Any help would be appreciated. Morning all and a happy and healthy 2011. My husband, David Jacobus Louw, lost his father when he was six years old. Unfortunately all contact was lost with the LOUW family. His father was NICOLAAS PHILIPPUS LOUW (1910-1941) and mother ELIZABETH (Baby) SUSANNA GROBLER (1911- 1978) who later married Pieter du Toit. Grandfather was DAVID JACOBUS LOUW. The Groblers were from the Stofberg/Dullstroom area. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Hello all I have been researching Cape Town and other South African photographers of the 19th century (actually up until the end of the Boer War) including those who migrated from Great Britain, Ireland and Australia and those who photographed the Boer War. I would appreciate hearing from anyone related to a 19th century photographer that worked in South Africa and for that matter anyone related to a photographer that worked in Great Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand who would like to share information. Cheers! Marcel Safier (Photographic Historian), Brisbane, Australia E-mail message checked by Spyware Doctor (7.0.0.514) Database version: 6.16610 http://www.pctools.com/en/spyware-doctor-antivirus/

Hi everyone and Happy New Year to all, I am still trying (without much luck) to get any information on my Grandfather who was born in SA (Cape Town) and left in the early part of 1900's for England. Does anyone have any information on LENNOX, this was my Great Grandmothers maiden name (Martha Catherine). If I find something on my Great grandmother it may lead to more information on my Grandfather. Thanks Helen Farrell Australia

Hi Signe I'm glad you were able to find your Meintjies connection. I have not been able to find mine yet. My grandmother Hester Caroline Calitz (nee Meintjies or Meintjes) originally from Graaff Reinet lost her husband when he was only 24 during the war and left her with 2 small children, my dad and his brother. I'm thinking she probably re-married. I think her dad's name was Lambertus Meintjies. I have checked out quite a few of the normal channels but have had no luck even info on the Calitz family is really scarce. So if any of those names or similar appear on your list, please let me know Happy New Year to all Rosemary Payne (nee Calitz) Tacoma Washington-USA Calitz Meintjes Bosman Louw Moore Bell -------------------------------------------------- From: "Signe Jacobsen" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 01, 2011 6:47 AM To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN Digest, Vol 6,Issue 1 > Happy New Year to all the wonderful researchers. We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives . . ., not looking for flaws, but for potential. - Ellen Goodman Wishing you all a very happy, healthy & safe 2011 Cheers Graham & Jennifer Lloyd I'm not stuck, I'm Ancestrally challenged Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass It's about learning to dance in the rain

To all my dearest friends in these groups. May 2011 be all you wish. May you keep healthy (forget about 'age related' problems), enjoy your families and do write your own stories for them. Let none of us be someone our grandchildren might (and alas so often do) say "I wish I had asked my gran about more". (OK not all of you are grandparents! YET) Becky we might reinvestigate our Horne names. I think I have some more infor. Fay Lea, please remind me AGAIN to send you that McMillan Stuff And as sure as I sit here there are some other promises I have failed to keep. Jog my memory. PLEASE. In the meantime enjoy every moment. Bless you all for all you have done for me. Patricia Frykberg
Carol, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for photographing the headstones in the South End Cemetery. Because of you efforts I have been able to identify at least 10 of my ancestors and now have birth and death dates for them. (Pattinson, Lumsden, Hurry, Ochse, Truter, Armour & Crawford-just to name a few) Many thanks again. Karma South Jordan, Utah USA
