    3. Dear All, I have come to that proverbial brick wall in my research and need some advice. My GG-Grandfather Louis Renze was born in Germany in about 1828, according to his Death Notice. His parents entry is not completed. He died on 1 January 1907 in Port Elizabeth and was married to Elizabeth Nucly / Nucely, who died on 14 December 1920 in Port Elizabeth. How do I go about finding out when he came to SA as I've searched ships passenger lists that are available, but with no luck. Also, I have some records for one of his daughters, Elizabeth Annie Frost (born Renze). She was born in about 1866. She married Stephen Josias Frost (born 10 January 1864) on 6 June 1885 in Cape of Good Hope. Stephen died on 27 June 1908. Any assistance / advice / direction will be highly appreciated. I do hope someone out there can help me. I am looking for George Nicholson (Esq), he was born about 1821 - I know not where, I cannot find any birth/Bap for him in England. From his marriage certificate I know that his father was also George, a Gentleman. I have found him on the 1841 census aged 20 living alone in Westminster, London an Apprentice Solicitor! He then gets married in Dec 1841 to Ellen Wilkes in Ware, Hertfordshire, England and is of full age and a Gentleman. Their 1st child Ellen Maria was born in 1844 Cape of Good Hope, What I would like to know is "When and how did they get there, where did they live there and is there a Baptism for Ellen"? They were obviously going backwards and forwards as the 2nd daughter Edith was born in England in 1847, so are there any passenger lists? In 1894 Edith travelled to New York on a ship called "Paris" she was 48. In 1900 aged 52 she is in Multnomah, Oregon. Seems she never got married and never came back.. The 3rd daughter Georgina, my Great Grandmother was also born in The Cape of Good Hope in 1850/1, someone kindly found me her Baptism which was in the Cathedral Church on 20th July 1851, abode Rondebosch, the witnesses were two females Anne and Maria Nicholson ............. are they sisters of George? On Georgina's marriage certificate in 1871 she states that her father George is a Solicitor, I can find no evidence of George living in England at any time since the 1841 census, there are none of the family anywhere here on the 51 census and by the 61 his wife and 3 daughters are with her mother and there they stay. No sign of George!! I hope I haven't been too long winded and that someone somewhere might just know something ............. anything. There were no formal record of all passengers arriving by ship in Cape Town until late 1800's. 3. Hi Dianne, I have a Elizabeth Mary Renze (born Nicholson) in my family tree. She was born 13.06.1890 and died 21.12.1959. Unfortunately her Death Notice does not mention her parents. I take it she was born in either Grahams town or Port Elizabeth. I am trying to find out who her parents where and if I can find that out I will let you know ASAP. Kind regards, Walter Renze -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: 12 January 2011 10:01 To: [email protected] Subject: SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN Digest, Vol 6, Issue 11 Today's Topics: 1.
