BELL, of Fort Beaufort, in the District of Albany, Shopkeeper As far as I know my 2nd Great-Great-Uncle Edward Russell Bell was alive and living in or near Graham's Town in 1844 (he died on 6th August 1869). So, does this notice simply indicate that the poor chap was bankrupt in 1844, or that there was another E. R. Bell infesting those parts in 1844? Don Montague whose mother was a Bell

Bankruptcies, judging from the NAIRS online index, were very common in the 19th Century Cape.
