Hi, I am trying to find information on my great Grandfather, George Taylor who lived in Fraserburg, Karoo, Northern Cape. From the Fraserburg parish records (Parish of Beaufort-West division Fraserburg) I have found George and his wife Elizabeth had four children. 1. George Thomas Taylor born 20/12/1880 - Occupation of George - Gaoler 2. Henry Frederick Taylor born 4/12/1882 - Occupation of George - Gaoler 3. Amelia Catherine Mary-Ann born 26/10/1884 - Occupation of George - Chief Constable 4. Edward William Taylor - my grandfather - born 2/12/1886 - Occupation of George - Chief Constable. I have not been able to trace his death and do not know whether he stayed in Fraserburg when he retired. Also I do not know if he was born in South Africa or came out from the UK - my Dad thought his ancestors may have come from Reading England but my aunt thought they came from Ireland. Any suggestions or advice on where to look would very much be appreciated. Kind regards Ken Taylor New Zealand
Hello Ken, you wrote: KT> I am trying to find information on my great Grandfather, George KT> Taylor who lived in Fraserburg, Karoo, Northern Cape. The following Estate File is indexed on NAAIRS: http://www.national.archives.gov.za/naairs.htm TAB MHG 5013/49 TAYLOR, EDWARD WILLIAM. 1949 PREDECEASED SPOUSE ELIZABETH ANNE TAYLOR. This may (or may not) be your grandfather. Only way to find out is to order the file. You can do this via eGGSA.org if you wish: http://eggsa.org You can also find out more about genealogy in SA from this page: http://www.eggsa.org/links_e.htm You write that from the 'Fraserburg parish records' you found details of children with birth dates but no other information? Did you source these records on Familysearch - what type of records are these (normally church records would have baptism, marriages etc).
