These transcriptions are from the Longland's ALPHABETICAL DIRECTORY of JOHANNESBURG (1893) and include the names of many more residents and also cover the suburbs of Fordsburg and Jeppestown and some smaller areas. They compliment the Street directory that I recently posted I have typed the surnames as they are written in the Directory, but I've completed some abbreviated words for easier reading. Also please note there are words that are not politically correct to use but I have transcribed details as written. I will post them over the next few weeks and apologies in advance for any errors I may make in transcription! 1893 Johannesburg ALPHABETICAL DIRECTORY [Henry Longland] CAB - COHE CABRITA, J A, hairdresser, box 594, Sauer-st., west CAFFYN, T R, Sunnyside Boarding House, box 934, Jeppe-st., centre CAITHNESS, F J R, secretary of companies, box 301, Roxburgh House, Harrison-st., north 136 CALKIN & Co., clothiers and outfitters, box 577, Standard Theatre Buildings, President-st., east CALKIN, E V, residence, Albrecht-st., Jeppe's Town CALLAGHAN, R J, Delvers-st., north CAMERON, A (STANTON & CAMERON) CAMPBELL, A , Gold-st., south CAMPBELL, J (National Bank) CAMPBELL, J N, Plein-st., east CAMPBELL, W Y, South African Trust & Finance Co., box 357; residence, Pretoria Road, Hospital Hill CAMPBELL, D J, family grocer & dealer, brushware, tinware and crockeryware, box 920, Pritchard-st., centre; residence Browning-st., Jeppe's town CAMPBELL, STUART & Co., importers of soft, rough and Kafir goods, box 787, tel.ad.
