[The original register was kept in the church. The duplicate was sent to the secular registering authority (now called the Department of Home Affairs), and another duplicate may have been given to the couple as a marriage certificate.]: It seems then that you would have: 1. [Church] or [Magistrate Marriage Office] original marriage entry in a registry book etc. 2. [Church] or [Magistrate Marriage Office] would then also record on a *[Duplicate Original Register] the same marriage maybe on the same day. This would be sent to the [Department of Home Affairs] etc. 3. [Church] or [Magistrate Marriage Office] would issue the couple with say a [Marriage Certificate] or similar document etc. * [Duplicate Original Register]: Whether or not the wedded couples signatures are theirs or not, I am not completely sure, but, "In the presence of...." is signed by the [Magistrate Marriage Officer] who is the SAME person who signs under "Examined in the Presence of ..." section below, but here he puts a a date 46 years after the actual marriage. I can assume from that, that these DOR's were only made out maybe for the first time since the marriage etc. ?. Maybe the Dept. of home Affairs wanted all these DORs to come in to finally get record of marriages around the country.... Which is why I am asking. If the case, it means that this DOR might NOT have been written on the same day of the marriage, and that it is in fact a transcript of an original register. Which means due to bad handwriting or faded documents, the DOR could be wrong in content ?. B.S. ================================== -----Original Message-----
