It used to be the name of the road leading north (to Uitenhage, Grahamstown and East London) from the seaward end of the Old Cape Road/Russell Street. I guess Govan Mbeki Drive would now be the nearest to it: that is the road you take to Uitenhage (which is midway along the old bypass route that got you to the Grahamstown Road without wrangling your way through the city traffic in PE), but now the new N2 serves that function quite well, albeit with a couple of tricky spaghetti junctions on which it is easy to take the wrong lane until you get accustomed to the SA signage. I don't recall how far along it continued to be called Adderlkey Street but my recollection is that it was a great deal longer than the one in Cape Town. Andrew Rodger [email protected]
