Yes, Cate, as I understand all the Anglican records are at Wits. University Libarary (same as all the DRC are at Stellenbosch). I think you will need to get a private researcher to do the work for you. Yes, now I remember, we have done STRETCH research together in the past. Hello Tombi, you wrote: TP> (same as all the DRC are at Stellenbosch). I don't think the above statement is quite correct. The English term, Dutch Reformed Church, is too broad. As I understand it the records of the Nederduits Gereformeerde Kerk (NGK) are in the NGK Archives in Stellenbosch. There are, I believe, at least 2 other Dutch Reformed Churches, the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk (NHK), and Gereformeerde Kerke (GK). Their records are entirely separate from one another. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Reformed_Church_in_South_Africa I believe the Anglican church records for Natal are in the Anglican archives in Pietermaritzburg - don't know whether Wits has copies. All the best, Richard -- Richard Ball, Norfolk, England http://www.ballfamilyrecords.co.uk [email protected]
Thanks Richard! Much appreciated. Hi all I have also been unable to find the records for St Mary's the Less in Jeppestown on the DVD's at Wits or on FamilySearch. It is possible according to the inventory that there is a physical register at Wits for 1903 and hopefully I will be able to photograph it sometime. Links that may help: According to information on the Historical Papers website this is the information with regard to the physical Anglican Records held at WITS: Collection Index:CPSA Diocese of Johannesburg 1885-1987 Collection Name:CPSA Diocese of Johannesburg Records 1802 (1885-1987)-1987. DIOCESE OF JOHANNESBURG: Inventory AB2013 http://www.historicalpapers.wits.ac.za/index.php?inventory/U/collections&c=AB2013/I/7323 "This Index provides a listing of the digitised Registers of the Anglican Church in Southern Africa, which are now available on DVDs and on the website of the Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They cover the years 1850-2004 and include baptism, marriage and burial records." These provinces were later divided into more Dioceses. The records on the website of the Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been arranged according to the original four Provinces. The records on the DVDs are arranged as listed.
