Hi, I’ve been following the Pudifin thread with some interest because of a *possible* connection – Pudifin, or its variants, being so unusual. I have links to an Edward Puttifin, no date or place of birth/baptism yet, but working on the assumption (always a dangerous thing to do!) that he was at least 21 when he married, then his year of birth could have been about 1690. He married Mary Squire in Stoke Gabriel, Devon on 23 Nov 1714 and was buried there 26 Jun 1758. My link being that one of their children, Christian Puttifin, married Richard Hinkson (bap 25 Jul 1725, Landulph, Cornwall) on 14 Nov 1752, Stoke Gabriel, and one of their daughters, also named Christian, married a 4 x Great-uncle, William Matthews, 26 Oct 1780, Stoke Gabriel. There are quite a few variants of Puttifin on Findmypast and wonder if it a corruption of the French surname Poidevin. (From Geneanet: common in the north of Brittany, the name is probably a variant of Poitevin - from Poitou). If you ever come across an Edward Puttifin born about 1690, please let me know!
