    3. Hi, Just to add that just because it was unlawful does not mean it never happened. I would not be here if my Great-Grandfather not not 'married' the sister of his late wife in 1864 ! There is also an 1908 nice-uncle marriage in the tree. That happy couple emigrated from England to Texas.     3. Hi Jonathan, There is no prohibition in the Bible against a man marrying his wife's sister AFTER his first wife died. In fact it is not uncommon and I have such an instance in my wife's family tree. I heard of a more unusual scenario recently. Man marries wife and they divorce after a number of years. He then dies and a younger brother then marries his sister-in-law (his deceased brother's ex-wife)!
