    3. Hi All Since Joachim is one of my direct line ancestors I am also interested in getting to the real facts. Using his name (with alternative spellings), his family name (with alternative spellings), his place of origin, etc, all as separate search criteria at VOC Opvarenden, failed to find him at all as arriving on a VOC ship. I have also searched the VOC Ships Register for all ships built between 1680 and 1709, but could not find any ship that docked at Cape Town on or around the date he was supposed to disembark Regrettably I could only deepen the mystery surrounding him :-( Johann -----Original Message----- From: south-africa-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:south-africa-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of south-africa-request@rootsweb.com Sent: 02 November 2011 07:01 To: south-africa@rootsweb.com Subject: SOUTH-AFRICA Digest, Vol 6, Issue 305 Today's Topics: 1. As he appears in the muster rolls of 1713 for the first time as a free man http://www.eggsa.org/transcriptions/monsterrollen/1713/mr_1713_intro.htm and the piece that Andre Groenewald quoted (from an unpublished book) is so specific about when he landed and that he was employed by the VOC , I suppose the next place to look would be the muster rolls of VOC employees from 1709 to 1712 (Cape Archives VC 40). These usually do record place of birth and rank. Unfortunately I do not have access to those and the Cape Archives does not allow one to have them photographed. So it will have to rest as unsolved at the moment. Maybe, but I can't find any marriage record in the Cape Town or Stellenbosch or Drakenstein (dating only from 1717) marriage registers for Jochem Koekemoer and Maria Putters. The marriage most probably took place around 1715 (given the baptism date of their first child) and in the Drakenstein(Paarl) church (since it cannot be found in Cape Town or Stellenbosch) and also since Maria Putters' mother and stepfather were living in Drakenstein from 1714 onwards, http://www.ballfamilyrecords.co.uk/kfp/I064.html but the Drakenstein marriage records prior to 1717 have been missing since the early 18th century, as I understand it.
