No, not in general. My grandfather Wynand Johannes PRETORIUS b.10 Jul 1898 @ Ventersdorp, X 2 Oct 1923 @ Ventersdorp, d. 25 Dec 1955 @ Johannesburg. No marriage certificate as the NG church had a fire in the late 1920's His death certificate states only his father's name, which is the same as his. so he might be the 1st born son? His first 3 children: 1st a girl, carries the maternal grand mother's name, 2nd a boy, Peter Johannes, 3rd a girl, my mother Jacomina Jacoba, which I feel should be the paternal grandmother's names, so I went in search of a Jacomina Jacoba married to a PRETORIUS and with a son named Wynand Johannes. I found one, BUT the PRETORIUS experts feel that he is the son of one of the older siblings and not of the parents. What's to do? what records to search for? This is my brick wall. Any suggestions PLEASE.
