I think the decision re photography was taken by an uninformed committee. We are fortunate in Natal that Archive Admin are aware of the Cape decision but so far have not chosen to implement the same. Someone needs to educate the Cape Officials because in the long run, educated use of photography will be far less damaging. I recently observed a 'learned professor' photocopying hundred of pages of some old file and shuddered at the thought of this thoughtless damage he was incurring.
