I have at last received the said Death certificate: It proves to be the correct one. So: After more than 6 years of searching I have at last found more information about my father's first wife. I was thrown by the fact that she lived in South Africa for many years. I then noticed on Find My Past that she travelled back and forth several times. She obviously did not advise the Hayes Court Care Home, where she died, of the full name of her divorced husband or the fact that he was still alive at the time of her being there. The Croydon Register Office have now been advised of the corrections. The date of birth narrows down the possible Elsie May Rogers to - Q3 1898, Cannock, Vol. 6b, Page 518. But the problem is that none born at that time have the name Frederick (a Baker) as a father, per her marriage certificate! I will eventual trace all the 'travelling to' addresses in the UK on the Electoral Rolls to see if any other family emerge. To some extent it is all a pointless exercise, just a need to know, because if she had not run off in a huff - for what ever reason - then I would not be writing this to you here and now! Jim Death cert reads: Death Entry No. 273. Registration district Croydon. Sub-district Croydon London Borough of Croydon. 10 April 1983, 50 Hayes Lane, Kenley. Last message: Well if you assume that the year of birth is not 1899, but 1898, then she died in Croydon Name: Elsie May North Birth Date: 24 Aug 1898 Death Registration Month/Year: 1983 Registration district: Croydon Inferred County: Surrey Volume: 11 Page: 1471 There's not much to work with with the others, but I suppose you could get the electoral rolls checked to see who the residents of these properties were. Kind regards Antony
