Some years ago I found my grandparents' marriage and the baptisms of their daughters in the Durban Anglican registers. These were 1922 - 1914. At that time the registers were kept at the Killie Campbell Library in Durban. I know very little of my maternal families religous beleifs. My mother used to herd me off to Sunday school every Sunday morning & the church as I got older, but this was very High Church of England. I thought the South African society around 1900 would have made baptism almost mandatory. My maternal grandmother was born in what is now Tamil Nadhu, and was then a part of the Madras Presidency. I beleive her family ( name Carlier) were part of the local Civil Service, so "non standard" religion would not have been smiled on. However, my maternal grandfather while in England was an itinerant fishmonger and green grocer. (Pony and trap around the South East Kent villages) and so had, I doubt, very little to do with his daughters religious education. I am most grateful for your interest, and if I can return the favour, please ask. I wish you a Happy New Year.
