Isabelle RUBIDGE was a beauty in her youth but developed a 'heks' nose as she aged causing her to be named 'Wasabelle'. She was the sister of my great grandmother and was born near Graaff Reinet. She married three times, once to DEACON, one to Alex McCREADY and once to HOUGHTON-BROWN. She allegedly said her gravestone should be marked merely 'Isabelle' as it was too much trouble to remember all her surnames. I have only the one HITGE in my Rubidge register - Catharine Mary Ann HITGE but observe there are a few with that name on Ancestry24. By George DEACON Isabelle had three children: Maud Quinton Cavenah DEACON b Johannesburg 1895., married Exton and Rodrigues; Portlock Gilmour DEACON born Graaff Reinet 1900 and Hinemoa Dixie DEACON ( no Dob) who lived near Salisbury. Hinemoa had four children, two by first husband EASTWOOD, one by second husband MOORE and one by third husband Patrick GAMBLE who married Isabelle's half-sister Idonie McCREADY ( she married 6 times and did some time in jail) after his divorce from Hinemoa. None of the three children of Isabelle and George Hitge DEACON have the name YOUNGER showing in the list I have so I wonder where that information came from or am I misreading the email? BW, Eira
