Dear whoever On 07-12-1833 the ship "Bolton" landed in Algoa Bay. On board to arrive in Grahamstown on the 22-12-1833 was J. Farrell amongst several other boys placed out as apprentices to so called Masters. Placed with Mr. Matthews, a schoolmaster in Grahamstown was my young lad as a servant (thought slavery was abanded earlier ) It is known that many so called street children were send out from Britain (always a leader in solving social problems) to S.A. by the Children's Friend Society. (Can you beat this name? ) In 1839 an investigation into the well being of these children took place in Cape Town. A certain James Farrell was then instructed to be interviewed by the Commission -silly little scary fool- but absconded, leaving me to sort out where he slots into the picture. My question is, would this be one and the same person to be placed with Mr.Matthews, or are we dealing with two completely separate individuals ? Any recommendations will be highly appreciated to resolve this ! matter ones and for all. Kobus Farrell
