There is a reference to ACP (Div C). Prisoners might well have been escourted by the patrol and the unit might well have been responsible for keeping an eye on them afterwards. So I'd guess "anit commando patrol" or "anti commando police" Leanne

    3. Hi Dave Putting 2 and 2 together from all that has been said I come up with an answer that is not equal to 4 but my logic says * We can all agree that we are talking about BW Camps * You said it is linked to the transfer of POW's family * Allan has said that military police are called Provost So how about ARMED CAMP PROVOST or ACCOMPANING CAMP PROVOST Also what about joining the BOER-WAR mailing list and putting this question to them. 2. Dave Long
    3. Thanks to all who have responded so far. I have checked my sources and confirm that the abbreviation 'ACP' was used on entries relating mainly to the Johannesburg Camp Register. These entries are mostly linked to transfers of wives and children of POW's and I get the impression that 'ACP' refers to a form of 'army command post' in the suburbs of Johannesburg (e.g. Fordsburg ACP, Braamfontein ACP). This post or office seems to have approved transfers to other camps mentioned elsewhere in the entry (under the Destination). Using the Acronym Finder website (http://www.acronymfinder.com) and selecting Military & Govt, there are 68 possibilities for 'ACP' of which the following are the more likely candidates: Area Command Post Administrative Command Post Army Civilian Personnel (or similar mentioned by many of the listers) Assistant Commissioner of Police Access Control Point Assault Command Post Alternate Command Post My tendency is towards the first two mentioned above but the jury is still out. Johannesburg was the only urban camp in the country and even had people staying in the Turfontein Race Course's grandstand and on mining compounds (see http://www.lib.uct.ac.za/mss/bccd/Histories/Johannesburg/ ). Another acronym 'APM' was commonly used to refer to the Assistant Provost Marshall. This person appears to have been at the larger camps and issued many orders relating to transfers. 3. I vaguely remember that the Provost was the military police in those days....They would have given authorization for people, citizens and military, to move around in the district or between districts. Almost a martial law senario. In more modern times I found the acronym Access Control Point. Not sure ....just an idea. 1. [SOUTH-AFRICA] Nursing Homes, Johannesburg
    2. Leeanne Blunden
    3. Hello, Does anyone know where I might find information / photographs about Nursing Homes in Johannesburg which may have existed c. 1944? On his death notice my great grandfather is listed as having died in CARLINGTON NURSING HOME, JHB. However a search for that place on Google brings up no results, there is only a possible link to a Carrington Nursing Home, so I'm trying to verify whether Carlington actually existed, or whether there was a spelling error on the death notice. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Leeanne
