Hello I had a Great Aunty whose nick name was Topsy, and I have heard this was the name of a South African town prominent around the time of the Boer War. Can anyone tell me if anything about the origin of Topsy Thanks Steve
Could it have referred to an extrenely fast growing town that like Topsy "just growed and growed"? I am looking for someone to please do a look-up at the Cape Town Archives for the Death Notice of Constant RUSSELL Volume No: 6/9/688 Ref: 999 - 1912. I believe her husband was a John RUSSELL but could not find him on Naairs. If possible I would appreciate this D/N as well. Thanks in advance. By the way the "Ma Russell" mentioned in Kobus Farrell's email was my teacher at Newcastle High and yes, she was merciless when we gave a wrong answer!! Althea Warby

Hi All I wonder if someone could assist, please. ? My great grandfather b. 10 Apr 1855 In Westmorland England, named George Tyson Webster. He left his family in Lancashire and went to South Africa, date not known, he returned at some time due to some illness. He again returned to South Africa, and was said to have been told by a doctor that if he returned it would cause his death. He is shown with his family in 1891 census but not in 1901 or 1911. Thanks to a message on another Rootsweb list listing of the eggsa.org site I did a search on the cemetery listings and found a George Webster who's burial in 1938 was at Urban area Kwazulu-Natal, MOOI RIVER, St John's Anglican Church cemetery. It's a good option for him and would like some help with how to find out more about this George Webster. Best Regards David Martin Wellington NZ
