However, for the following reasons, I feel there is a strong possibility that Peter was the son of Lewis Solomon, Jr. and his wife, Betty Johnson. A bequest was made in the will of Lewis Solomon III, dated 1795, to the children of Peter Solomon, deceased. This would seem to indicate kinship. All other bequests in the will were to Lewis IIIs siblings as he apparently had no children. It appears (no proof) that Lewis may have made a bequest to his deceased brothers family. Betty Johnson had a brother named Peter. Since it was the custom of the time to name children after family members, this could well have been the origin of Peters name. Peter was closely associated with George Solomon, s/o Lewis Solomon, Jr. in the deed records of Franklin County, NC. To have entered into loan and property agreements together would seem to indicate a strong family tie. Peter served as godparent to Mary Solomon, d/o Lewis and Betty Solomon on April 8, 1753. Other godparents listed in the Albemarle Parish records at this time were, as a rule, family members. Peters military records indicate he was born in Virginia. A birth date @1736/37 would have been appropriate to place him as an older child of Lewis and Betty Solomon. William and Ruth Hayes Solomon had a daughter, Judith, born September 2, 1737 which would exclude them as possible parents for Peter (unless Peter and Judith were twins).
