    3. Since I have totally failed in finding the mystery man Moses Solomon, my gr. grandfather, b. 1805, NC, I will attack the problem another way. Sampson was born approx. 1813 in NC; on 1850 census he lived in Fentress County, TN in next household to Moses. He married Anna Beaty of Overton County, TN. I believe Moses and Sampson were brothers, or related. In 1860 census, still in Fentress County, Sampson had children, Artemia b. 1851, Ethelbert b. 1853, Thomas b. 1855, David b. 1856, Nancy b. 1857, Sarah b. 1859. Could not find him on census after 1860. Recognize any of these names? Carletta Keith

    3. Hello All, Harold, I would like to add one unofficial family to your 1790 census. They do not actually appear in the census but evidence strongly indicates that they were still in NC in 1790. John and Mary Solomon were in Northampton County on December 3, 1768 when they sold land to William Mitchell. This may or may not be the John Solomon that along with Peter Solomon witnessed a Bute county deed in August, 1772. In November, 1777, a deed from Richard Webb to George Solomon (Bute County) was witnessed by Isaac Solomon Jr. and John Solomon. Jonathan Salmon appears on the 1779, 1780, and 1781 Warren County tax lists. He is listed as Jonathan Solomon on the 1782 Warren County tax list. Are John and Jonathan the same person? John Solomon appears on the 1783 tax list for Halifax County. By February 1786, the NC state census shows Mary Solomon of Halifax County, district 13 as the head of the household. Mary's household contains four white males less than 16 or greater than 60 and two free white females (Mary and a daughter). It appears that John died between 1783 and February, 1786. On September 10, 1789, we find Deed #1042, page 105 in Franklin County. The deed reads - John Solomon of North Hampton Co., N. C. to Evens Andrews (Andress) of Franklin County for 20 pds. specie a tract of 100 acres in Franklin Co. Lying on the waters of Bear Branch adjoining Bustian, Hill, and Hall. The deed was also signed by Mary Solomon. Wit. Joseph Andress. This property is very near the James Solomon of 1790 Franklin County. It would seem to imply a relationship between John and Mary Solomon's family and the Solomons in Franklin County. Was this John Solomon Mary's husband or one of her elder sons. I suspect that it is her son John Solomon who is also likely the John Solomon in the 1790 census for Halifax County. The Barnes Solomon in Martin County is possibly one of her sons. Where was Mary in 1790? She could have remarried or may be living with one of her children. With no proof, I suspect that she is in either Orange or Caswell County, NC. The census for Orange, Granville and Caswell counties was lost. The 1790 census has a list of heads of households prepared from prior tax lists. I have spent a lot of research time in these counties and know that many families were missed on these lists. My only basis for suspecting that Mary was in Orange-Caswell County in 1790 is based on Alston Solomon born 1777/78 in NC who married Phoebe Browning of Caswell County. In looking at the 1790 NC families, most of the sons less than 16 are later identified or the head of household is too young to be Alston Solomon's father. Many Caswell county families migrated to Robertson County, TN between 1790 and 1805. Alston Solomon is in Bedford County TN in 1812, Robertson County, TN from 1814 to 1819, and back in Bedford County from 1820 until his death between 1840 and 1850. Alston Solomon in Bedford county, TN is next door to William Solomon's (d 1814) descendants in Lincoln County. I would welcome comments and corrections on the above text.

    2. Harold Solomon
    3. Hello All, The 1790 Census for North Carolina has the following Solomons listed as heads of household: Barnes, Goodwin, Isham, John, William, William, James, and Lazarus. I have them as follows: Barnes Martin Co. (Unknown) Goodwin Franklin Co. (Son of William Jr.) Isham Edgecomb Co. (Son of William Sr.) John Halifax Co. (Unknown) William Franklin Co. (William Jr. son of William Sr. ) William Edgecomb Co. (William Sr. son of Lewis Sr. of VA) James Franklin Co. (Unknown) Lazarus Nash Co. (Son of Peter) I have no idea who Barnes Solomon is. I suspect that James and John could be either sons of William Sr. of Edgecomb Co. or his nephews, sons of Lewis Jr. of Surry / Sussex VA. Can anyone add to or clarify this info? 3. Hi Nieca and All, I am still here at hsolomon@pdq.net I don't understand the problem with my mail. I have seen the John Solomon mentioned. I have suspected that he may be another son of William Solomon Sr. of Edgecomb Co. The reason I don't think he is the son of Lewis Jr. is because in the mid 1700's when the Solomons migrated to NC, a John continued to be listed in VA.
