They must have gone on vacation or out-to-lunch. If they were really fortunate, they would be fishing, or on a wonderful productive genealogy excursion! Myself, I'm still here waiting for more info or photocopies of the Solomon bible with evidence of my Levi Solomon of Freehold, Monmouth Co., New Jersey, being the son of Peter Solomon of North Carolina. After much searching, my mother's opinion was that this Levi Solomon was the son of Jonas Solomon and Hannah Applegate, although it is apparently a circumstantial assumption and not (from what I have seen so far) supported by documentation. The information connecting Levi to Peter, on this mailing list a while back, listing both Levi's wives, and that he was a minister [we didn't know he was a minister, but we know his whole family attended] at the [Scotch] Presbyterian Church, [Old Tennent Church] in Freshold [sic., we know it as Freehold, Monmouth Co.] New Jersey, strongly indicates that this is the correct Levi Solomon. However, I need to have something more than just one brief email message in order to update my belief (and my web site) of who Levi's parents were. Any Ideas? Where is everyone?? Haven't gotten much e-mail from any list I am on. Either everyone is quiet or I have been dropped from all my lists. Beth Solomon
Does anyone have a will index for Howard County, Mo.? Looking for anything on Henry SOLOMON who died there in 1866. Mary
Greetings, It seems that sites posted on the resource center must be connected to Roots Web. Sorry, I did not understand this. Perhaps, all of you could post your web sites to the list, instead. Sorry, again..... Martha Wooten Solomon List Owner
Hello family members, When I posted the URL for this new service at Roots Web, I only posted the basic site URL because I thought you might want to see all that was available. The URL for Solomon info is http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/s/o/SOLOMON/ To post a question or to share research scroll down to items....queries, Bible records, bios, deeds, etc. I have just now had time to begin posting a few items of research. I do encourage you to post your research with sources. At this time I am not expecting this to replace the list, but to enhance it. I posted only items that were posted on the list previously since many of us may not have time to go the this page, but we will read our email. I encourage you to also post to the list, as we have been doing. To post the URL of your web page, I suggest that you place a statement that you have information at your web page, then scroll down and enter the URL in the appropriate boxes. I will also be managing this resource page and am wondering how Roots Web will have computers to manage the files, if all of the lists post info. But, I guess they have that figured out. I appreciate all the kind thoughts and wishes on my defense today. It went very well and now I will proceed to doing the actual research for the degree. Thanks, Martha Wooten Solomon List Owner
What can any of our members tell me about this John Solomon? I do have in my records that he was born before 1701. If you have a web site with genealogy related to the Solomon family and do not object to your site being posted at the new Surname Resource center at Roots Web, please post your URL or sent the info to me and I will post it for you. I will need your name to make this posting. The URL for the Surname Resource center is http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/ Thanks, Martha Wooten Solomon List Owner
Greeting, Since we have traced the Solomon family to this local, you many be interested in the following: Albemarle, Virginia, Record of Families, 1744-1890 The central Virginia county of Albemarle was home to about 32,000 persons in 1890. This database, taken from "The History of Albemarle County," is a listing of family information for residents of the county between 1744 and 1890. It provides marriage, death, and military service information. Researchers will also find information regarding persons who left the county to settle in other areas of the state. Containing information on over 8600 families, this collection can be illuminating for those with ancestors from central Virginia. Bibliography: Woods, Edgar, Rev. Hello All Several weeks ago I posted a query to the Scotland World GwenWeb. I posted to all shires. I have allready heard from Aberdeen which ruled out that one as the home of Peter. The gentleman had access to the original records and the name did not come up. But today I got a positive response from a person doing research in Midloathian Shire Scotland. He told me that he did have information. I am expecting information any minute now. I will let everyone know what I find out. Le
Hello For those of you doing research on the line of John Soloman who married Rebecca Sturdivant I know Mrs. Scott's History of Henry County Alabama gives 22/Jun/1862 as the date of William Lazarus's death, which I believe to be incorrect. His Confederate Service Record on microfilm at my State Archives shows him alive in 1865. He was discharged from the Service with the rank of Captain of Company H 39th Alabama Infantry. Also Martha Soloman's widow's pension gives 1870 as his date of death. He was wounded in battle, and died five years after the war in 1870. He married Martha Sholar (1839-1908) in 1857. Their children were Mary Clayton (1859-1925), James M. (1861-1923) and William Lazarus II (1863-1935). He was born in February of 1863 and his father according to the book died in Jun.1862, which is only eight months. So that could not be right. That is the lenght of time I go to the dentist. So he died probably 22/Jun/1870. Le

I have a copy of the announcement from the newspaper of the marriage of Rev. Lewis Solomon and Mrs. T. E. Bateman. They were married 11 Nov 1863. This is just in case someone wanted the date for their records. I didn't know Rev. Lewis Solomon was married twice till I read his obit. It mentioned his children and wife were standing around. I know Lucy Ann Lingo Solomon had died in Apr 1863. So that's when I knew I had to find his second wife. Now I want to know her name and not her former married name. Any help would be appreciated. Rose
Hello A while back someone asked about Lewis Solomon's second wife someone I had been in contact with told me it was T. E. Bateman. I did locate the initials T. E on the 1870 Census, which I mistook the T for an F, but I looked a little closer and did see it was a T instead. Only two children were listed M.D. Solomon and C. H. both were daughters. Unfortunately none of my paternal folks, my great-grandfather John Samuel Bateman arrived over here five years after the 1870 census was taken. Le
HI THE HARTWELL SOLOMON THAT I HAVE IS HARTWELL LUMPKIN SOLOMON B. 1835, D. 1862. I DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER INFO ON HIM- WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP. LUDELL SOLOMON
Hi One question I need to ask last year I found a Henry Solomon listed on the 1850 Slave Schedule of Butler County was that the son of Henry and Lucinda who knows. Le
Hi Made a mistake he was married in 1864 and he died in 1897 sorry about the blunder. Married in Blanchard Caddo Parish La, and he died there. Le
Hello Did Hartwell marry an Elizabeth Flowers. One of their children might have been George W. Solomon place of birth was Butler County Alabama date of birth 1835, place of death Caddo Parish Louisiana date of death 1864. George W. married a Miss Eusibia W. Attaway. I found a list of George W. Solomon's children in the IGI records. Frances, Stella, Allen, Clide, Sallie, Sterlling, Thurston, Ernest, Frank, Eusibia Fonie, Edward. Thyese are their children. Le
Harold, This is in response to your post of June 4, 1999. First, it is an excellent post as I am a timeline freak myself. You asked about the year of the French and Indian Wars. I thought that I knew the answer to that question but I looked at a source that I had on the book shelf and found that there does not seem to be a precise beginning and end of the war. First, there was an early campaign involving the French and Enlish in a frontier dispute called King Georges War that involved several skirmishes in 1744. There was a second phase of shirmishes that were fought between the English and the French and Indian alliance in 1752. In December of 1753, a young Major George Washington was sent by VA governor Dinwiddie to negotiate peace settlements with several French forts on the frontier (the frontier being western PA and western NY). Washington was unsuccessful in negotiations and barely escaped with his life as a result of wintertime frontier hazards. In 1754, Washington was appointed a LT Colonel in the VA Milita and was sent to establish a fort at the Confluence of the Allegeny and Monongahela Rivers in PA. Prior to Washingtons arrival, the French took the fort from English workers without hostilities. The English left and the French took over construction of the new fort which they named Fort ?Duquene. In May 1754, Washington attacked a small troop from Fort Duquene and inflicted casualities and captured 21 prisoners. Approximately 1000 French and Indian troops surrounded the roughly 500 troops under Washington's command and inflicted significant casualities. Washington was forced to surrender but he and his men were allowed to return to VA. The French surmised that the Frontier war was over at this point but it was actually the unofficial beginning of Nine years of warfare from 1754 to 1763. The war with the French was essentially over in 1760 when the French were forced to surrender Canada but skirmishes with the Indian Faction continued on until about 1763 when most of the Indian resistance had moved west of the Ohio River. You stated that no George or Peter appeared in the 1790 VA census which is correct. However, the 1790 federal census for all counties was lost. Where possible, the census was reconstructed from county records. It has been estimated that approximately half of the heads of households were accounted for in the reconstructed 1790 census. The counties with 1790 VA census data are Prince Anne, Norfork, Nansemond, Isle of Wight, Warwick, Surry, Sussex, New Kent, Hanover, Gloucester, Middlesex, Essex, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, Hampshire, Frederick, Shenandoah, Rockingham, Orange, Stafford, Albermarle, Amherst, Fluvanna, Cumberland Powhatan, Prince Edward, Amelia Chesterfield, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, Greenville, and Greenbrier. In 1790, VA included West Virginia and most of what is now Kentucky. Greenbrier was the only frontier county west of the mountains whose 1790 census survived. Only about one third of the land area of VA is covered by the 1790 census but again the estimate is that approximately half of the population was covered by the 1790 census. George and possibly even Peter may have been in VA in 1790 but were in that portion for which there is no 1790 census. Again, a very good post and keep up the good work. Ray
Hello All Several days ago I posted to the UkWorldGenWeb site for Scotland, because a source that Harold came me showed that the country of origin of the Solomans might be Scotland. I have just heard from a Brian Wynn, he said that he did find records which showed a Peter Solmon of Muiravonside Sterling Scotland marrying a Margaret Bryce in 1730, now I have asked him to find out more. He emailed me from Austrailia. When I hear from him I will let you all know. Le
Does anyone know anything about Peter M. SOLOMON, the son of Rev. Lewis SOLOMON and Lucy Ann LINGO? All I have is he married a woman by the name of Flora and they had I think six children. I have no dates and nothing else on him. This IS NOT Peter Monroe SOLOMON. Thanks, Rose
