I have been reading the postings on this list for a few months, and I am surprised to find that there seem to be no Jewish SOLOMONs, except mine. The family story is that my great great grandfather Yitzhak Isaac Solomon was brought to Palestine from Sedlice, Poland as a child by his parents Abraham and Miriam about 1840. Isaac married in Jerusalem and had two sons (Eliyahu Zalman and Mayer Isaiah) and two daughters (Bayla Malka and Hinda). Around 1900, Isaac moved to USA via France and started another family (Robert, Murray, Perry, and Mary).

Help!? MY earliest known Solomon was named James. According to the 1850 census for Hawkins County Tennessee he was born about 1825 in Virginia. That is the earliest info I have on him. He was enumerated with the Isaac Phillips family, whose daughter he married. The James Solomon family was in Texas by 1860, then moved to Arkansas where he stayed. He died after 1900 in Washington County AR. His children (Elbert, William, Angeline, Amanda, Hattie and Charles) were later in AR, TX, OK and NM. Please keep us in mind. Hi, Terry and Bonnie. You both may be on to something. Someone told us the family may have migrated to Kentucky from SC in the 1800s. As for what part of Kentuck Isaac Solomon was from, I can only say he met his wife in western Kentucky. I do know she had many brothers, and they all worked in the coal mines. Isaac Solomon appears to have been a carpenter by trade. About all else we know is that Harlan County keeps popping up, but have had no luck at all searching birth records. Okay, this may be an odd question, but does anyone know if it's possible to learn who was in the merchant marines? We were told Isaac Solomon may have served with them when before he was married. Hi, all. Our problem is we really have no Solomon line to follow. All we know so far is that my grandfather, Isaac Alfred Reuben Solomon, was born in either Kentucky or Indiana somewhere between 1900-1908. Everyone who knew more about the family died many years ago. We do know he had brothers, but don't know how many. One brother was named Johnny or Jonathan. We also know he married a woman named Nancy Smith, who was definintely born in Kentucky. Itt's a very faint trail right now because we can't find anyone who knows enough to get us started. James A. In response to the request that we update our postings, here is mine. I am looking for the parents or other ancestors of my great grandfather, Moses N. Solomon, born 1805 in NC. In 1836 he was in Overton County, TN; by 1840 was in Fentress County, TN and was there on 1850 census also. He married Nancy Woolsey and had 8 children. By 1860 he was in Wayne County, KY, and had a new wife, Mary (Polly) Ledsinger Hughes. He died or disappeared shortly after 1860, it is believed. His children included my grandfather Aaron W., b. 1854, , Jerry W., b. 1852, and Winnie E., b. 1849; all 3 of these people went to TX and then to OK. There were 5 other older children of whom I know virtually nothing. Moses may have had a brother or other relative, Sampson Solomon, b. 1813, NC, living in next household on 1850 census. I believe (because of family stories) Moses is somehow related to Samuel Solomon who went from Lincoln Co., TN, to Shelby Co., TX about 1850 and then on to Ellis County, TX, Carletta Keith, Houston, TX
