Members, I will not bore you with the details, but Roots Web has problems with their servers. The following is part of a message I received from Roots Web about these problems: "Effects: * With list SUBSCRIPTIONS some people who had subscribed will now be unsubscribed, and those who had unsubscribed will be subscribed. This is due to the fact that we have recovered information from back-ups. You may see some complaints here." Please notify me if you have problems and I will correct the errors. If you know someone, who was on our list and was dropped, please notify me and I will add them back on the list. I will also remove individuals, as needed. Sorry about the problems, but are beyond my control. Thanks, Martha Wooten Solomon List owner/host

Hello and Happy New Year to all. This is just my annual check-in to see who might be out there. If anyone is looking for SOLOMONs in South Africa, particularly Cape Town, I'd love to hear from you. Related names are GILMORE, TWYNAM, KANNEMEYER and possibly LEVINSKI and PILINSKI. Regards, Mike
Winter 2000 edition of the GA Genealogical Society Quarterly: "Name Changes in GA by Legislative Act, 1802-1854" P. 224: "Mary Ann Lee had her surname changed to Solomons on 22 Dec. 1830." If you can identify May Ann Lee [Solomons], please send your information to the list. Thanks, Martha Wooten Solomon
Recently, I received the Winter 2000 copy of the GA Genealogical Society Quarterly. In this edition, they have listed "Name Changes in GA by Legislative Act, 1802-1854." I will be posting those that I know relate to our families. Also, I will be glad to look up other names upon request. Names were changed for a variety of reasons; some to English forms of the original surname and some to legitimize children and prove identity. By a legislative act of 8 Dec. 1841, it also became possible to change names in county superior courts in GA. Thanks, Martha Wooten Solomon

Posted on: SOLOMON Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/surnames/s/o/SOLOMON/queries/16 Surname: Solomon, Levy, Salen, Saletsky ------------------------- I also am searching my Solomon roots. Do you know if your Solomon's are Jewish? What Country did they come from originally? I am not sure, but I believe my Solomon's came from Poland or Lithuania (some of which may have lived in England for a bit) and then through Cananda and eventually settled into Philly, New Jersey and Florida. Would love to hear from you. Tricia Sheldon Solomon

Posted on: SOLOMON Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/surnames/s/o/SOLOMON/queries/14 Surname: Nancy E Martin, Nancy E Solomon, Nancy E Grossman ------------------------- I am looking for informtion on my Great Grandmother. First married William P. Soloman on March 7, 1877. Died in 1948 afler living with her daughter in Spokane, Washington.
I am not a Solomon researcher. However, I ran across some information that I thought might benefit Solomon researchers. Plus, I have a couple of questions that a Solomon researcher might be able to help me with. I found the following at the Shady Grove Cemetery, Jefferson County, Tennessee. SOLOMON-Holland 7 Mar 1889 21 Sep 1909 John W. ) 7 Dec 1870 12 Jul 1945 Rebecca Harrison) 1 Nov 1874 4 Aug 1938 J. W. ) 25 Sep 1850 22 May 1897 Sarah C.) 25 Jun l844 3 Mar 1908 w/o J.W. Lester F. 16 Mar 1895 6 May 1907 s/o J.W. & R.R. Nancy 22 Feb 1824 20 Aug 1877 w/o Sterling Rufus Walker ) 2 Sep 1882 7 Apr 1954 Della Chambers) 14 Sep 1883 6 Jul 1939 Twin Boys ) Born & died 14 Mar 1922 Ruby Eugenia ) 6 Apr 1912 9 Nov 1921 Loraine ) Born & died 18 Jan 1921 My link to this group of people is Rebecca Harrison Solomon. She was Rhoda Rebecca (Becky) Harrison, b. 1 Nov 1874, d. 4 Aug 1938, m. 13 Nov 1892 to John Wesley Solomon. Becky Harrison was the sister of my g grandmother Nancy Virginia (Nannie) Harrison who m. my g grandfather William Harley (Harley) Bryan. I don't have anything on Becky Harrison's children, nor on the pedigree of her husband John Wesley Solomon. The above information appears to provide a lot of clues if only I can decipher it. Holland Solomon appears as if he might be the son of John W. Solomon and Rebecca Harrison. John W. Solomon is Becky's husband John Wesley Solomon. J.W. and Sarah C. Solomon appear to be John Wesley Solomon's parents. It seems likely the elder Solomon was named John Wesley Solomon as well. Of course, his name could have been James or something of that nature. Lester F. Solomon appears to be the son of John Wesley Solomon and Rebecca Harrison, especially when you consider that her full name was Rhoda Rebecca Harrison. Nancy, w/o Sterling Solomon, appears to be the mother of the elder J.W. Solomon. I found a marriage for Sterling Solomon to Nancy A. Hickey, 4 Feb 1846 in Jefferson County, Tennessee that appears to be this couple. Rufus Walker Solomon appears to be the son of J.W. and Sarah C. Solomon with Della Chambers his wife. The twin boys, Ruby Eugenia Solomon, and Loraine Solomon appear to be the children of Rufus Walker Solomon and Della Chambers. Before I put this information in my data base, can anybody either confirm it or provide corrected information? At this point, I confess I have not done the due diligence to chase down the relevant census data. I'm just looking at the cemetery data from above. Thanks in advance. Does anyone on the list have access to the 1880 Twiggs Co., GA. Census? If so could you please check and see if there is a Mrs. T.E. Solomon. She was the second wife of Rev. Lewis Solomon. She was Mrs. T.E. Bateman before she married Lewis. I am assuming that the initials are hers and not those of her first husband since on the 1870 census those initials are used. There might be a daughter named Cora Hunter Solomon listed with her. Rev. Lewis Solomon died in 1872 in Twiggs Co., Georgia. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Rose
I believe they came from England, possibly Poland and settled into Philly & NY. I do not have much to go on. Asher Solomon (Would have been born about 1870's, father of Maurice Solomon born about 1890's) Any information would be greatly appreciated. Dear Folks I came very close to losing my maternal grandmother this Thanksgiving her doctor perscribed to much Ultram, and she first began to fall alot and being 93 her skin is like tissue paper and it left huge gashes, she already had places on her legs which has recently healed. She had 20 stitches in one arm. She was taking 8 ultrams a day. She went into a comatose state, Would not respond to question and had a blank expression on her face. She looked like death warmed over took my parents and uncle and aunt (mother's sister) to help her out of bed. And we all though she was going to die. I stayed up most of the night last night reading prayers for the sick from my Book of Common Prayers, God hears prayer even when it is read from a booko. She slept off and on the past three days. The first thing she asked for this morning was a cup of coffee, that is the first thing she had said in months. She is on her way to a full recovery she will enjoy her 94th birthday Tuesday. The doctor is getting her off that mess. I said that to say this life is so precious, for those of you who I hurt by being to eager for genealogy I am sorry. God Bless this group. I am glad I am apart.
