    3. Just when you thought you had heard the last about digital cameras!! >You will also need to get the pics from he camera to your computer for storage and printing. Either this can be done with a card-reader, which is an extra, or it can be done with a direct link. Again ask to try both out to see which you find easiest.< First the horror story! I went to Burnley for a three day research trip in the Library. I used my digital camera to photograph books, fiche screens and film screens. The non standard batteries (I have two) ran out and I had forgotten to take the charger! (Moral - Pick a camera with standard batteries). I took my batteries along to a specialist camera shop and the nice young man there kindly recharged them overnight. I had also filled up my card and forgotten to take both the spare card and the tiny adaptor it fits into before going directly into my laptop. When I picked up the batteries I had to have the pictures transfered onto a CD and watching him use the same tiny adaptor that would have fitted straight into my laptop! This whole sequence had to be repeated a second time! I have now bought a 'belt and braces' device which is much simpler for transferring pictures. It is a casing, with slots for all the popular cards, that contains a standard laptop hard drive. It has a rechargable battery and is the ideal way of transferring and storing images, especially if you haven't got a laptop available. Mine has an 80Gb drive and will hold thousands of pictures. On that trip to Burnley I took nearly 1000 pictures which would have filled several cards. It saves you having to have several spare cards. Incidentally it is only slightly larger than an audio cassette case, but a good bit heavier! It cost £95. I bought it at a Computer Fair and it comes complete with charger and USB cable so you can connect it to your computer. Jeanne Bunting
