Can any of our knowledgeable Listers tell me if they know of the term "Mud Major". Dating from around the 1890-1900 period and is an Army expression. I have looked in the usual sources plus 3 dictionaries of slang but without result. Awaiting replies in hope.... Cheers Peter Rogers.
