Indeed... it reminds me of the errors i was finding in the 1901 when I was a checker - and took a surreptious look at some post-final- checked folios. Such things as John SMITH's daughter Jane Anne indexed as Jane ANNE, and his servant Margaret JONES indexed as Margaret SMITH... total unfindables - and around 15% of them if I remember correctly... There is simply no substitute for two independant (locally knowledged) transcribers and an expert independant adjudicator if one is to hope to get good quality. Hugh Ainsley
