List members may be interested to learn that the Society of Australian Genealogists website has an index to Soldiers and Marines 1788-1830. These are people from British forces who served in Australia (then simply New South Wales), many of whom settled in Australia on completing their terms, but a good many of whom returned home or went on with their regiments to other colonial postings.
