I suppose this is Sir Lawrence John Verney, the former Recorder of London, who died 25 July 2014. He is among the new members listed in the March 1941 issue of the Genealogists' Magazine. The novelist Anthony Powell joined in the period 1 July-30 Sept 1926 and died 28 March 2000, so it must be very close between them. Of course there may be someone who has clocked up even longer.
