    3. Among other bequests in his will of 1678, John SEELEY, a draper of Newbury, Berkshire, left money for the poor of the town. In 1774, John SEALY, Captain of the East Indiaman Northington, presented the Corporation of Newbury with two painted China Bowls. Walter Money FSA, in his "History of Newbury" (1887), asserts that Captain SEALY was a descendant of SEELEY the draper. The Newbury Corporation Records confirm the Captain's gift, but make no mention of a relationship between the two men, and so far I've failed to discover any sons born to SEELEY the draper. No sons appear in the 1678 will. If Walter Money's assertion is simply a guess, and the two SEELEY's are not related, could anyone please suggest a reason for the Captain's gift to the Corporation? 3. Perhaps the Corporation of Newbury contributed to the voyage or provision of the 'Northington' and the bowls were John Sealy's acknowledgement and thanks for their help?
