After years of wondering what my grandfather-in-law did during WW1 I've just had someone find him in the Red Cross Prisoner records which say John S. Wells Corp. 2nd Welsh No. 43169 injured at? Somme 16.9.16, born 10.8.78 Basutoland. His full name was John Anderson Stenson Wells but I'd not known which names had been used for his Army records, he was born Basutoland on 10 August but in 1885. I've now found his Medal Card as John S. Wells, Welsh R., No. 43169, that he received the Victory and British medals, but there is no mention of his actual service or any dates, nothing about him being taken prisoner. It does include Roll and Page Number as one 'word', being J/1/104B155299. Would the Medal Roll give me any extra details? I understand this is kept at TNA Kew and would appreciate it if anyone visiting could take a look for me - if it is likely to be useful? From Merryl Wells of Luton, Beds.
