I have struggled with both new searches, but it's the same as anything new....patience. My computer died a week ago and I have had to upgrade to Windows 8, that's a challenge too! That's a matter of opinion. Ancestry were paying to maintain 2 sets of software, working on 2 sets of indexes, with increased hardware. There was a clear financial case for it. As for FMP, from what little I saw of their "worldwide" collections, it seems to me that the same applied to them, as it looks as if the new UK screens are based on the previous worldwide screens. Though as I don't have a worldwide subs to FMP, I'm willing to be corrected. The issue for me with the FMP move is that there was a simple Requirement Number 1 for the move, i.e. "New system must do everything the Old one did". (The "how" would be different but the "what" must be the same). That Requirement has not been fulfilled with the loss of things like sorting on the output and the search on census by TNA reference. Don't blame the programmers - blame those who passed off the new stuff. As for switching, well, if anyone else can produce the WW1 Soldiers' Documents (Ancestry only), the pre-WW1 Soldiers' Document (FMP only), Cheshire PRs (FMP only), the (English) Probate calendar (Ancestry only???) .... Well, you get my drift. Adrian B
