    3. Theresa, You may be confusing the street name in your search. On Manhattan Island, New York City, a "street" name (in this case 10th St.) is numbered starting at the south end of the island and "streets" run east-west. An "avenue" is also numbered (such as 7th Ave,) starting at the east side of the island and avenues run north-south. An arbitrary center point usually further separates the address numbering system east and west of that point, or north and south of that point, and house numbers ascend from that center point. So, 10th Street runs east-west, and "West 10th Street" would be the western part of 10th St. from the center division point, and there would also be a "East 10th Street." Also, quite likely there would be addresses of both a 255 W. 10th St., and a 255 E. 10th St. This is an over-simplification of Manhattan streets as there are other street names scattered about on this basic grid of numbered streets and avenues. It seems likely that your Christina Davis either did not remain in New York City or she married and therefore has a different last name in subsequent censuses, making it extremely difficult to find her. What sometimes works for me, is: in a census search, just enter the given name, (surname left blank) an approximate age, and birthplace of Ireland, and location as New York (state), and troll through the hits to see if anything looks likely. A member very kindly sent me the web link for the Steve Morse site: http://stevemorse.org/ - which is a fantastic resource....... yet I still can't find the correct address details - and looking at this site its obvious that I should!! (I'm obviously doing something wrong but can't work out what). Christina was born in Limerick in 1886 and was headed for her sister Mary at 255 West 10th St, NY. From the site above, I can find a West St - and a 10th Av - but these are not the same address (I saw the census pages and couldn't match up the house number, 255). Christina arrived in NY on the SS Baltic on 2 September 1904, so maybe on the 1905 census. I will check out other suggestions but if anyone can help with this, you'd make an old lady very happy! (I'm doing this on behalf of a distant cousin, an old Irish lady who is almost 80 and has wondered all her life what happened to her aunt, Christina). Thank you everyone, you're a brilliant crowd!
