Re various recent comments made by SOG members about FMP, the following may be of interest. I too have just tried to use the new FMP site [with Windows XP and the latest Firefox browser, using a fast fibre broadband connectionm, which always worked fine with the old site], but with only limited success. The main problem for me was the desperately slow download of data, even just to access my account details, which made the 'new' site entirely unusable. As there is no provision for continuing to use the old site, to which I've been a satisfied subscriber for many years, I have now closed my FMP sub., which was due for renewal next nonth. Apart from disappointment and irritation, it's also curious that both Ancestry and FMP appear to have done this at the same time. Given current dissatisfaction with Ancestry (having just dropped their superb "Old Search"), there should have been a major killing for FMP picking up the Ancestry cast-offs. But FMP are going to lose that and maybe more. And of course, the reverse is true. FMP leavers will be wary about switching to Ancestry. Both organisations appear to have ignored customers' needs, especially the more serious researchers. Presumably they've listened to too many accountants and non-genealogy IT experts experts. It would be a shame if this backfires, as both organisations have done much to give online access to records.
