    3. Have any of Ancestry, FMP et al. actually done their own transcriptions of the 1881 census or is everyone using the original Familysearch/Mormon effort and offering it for free? It's just that, if I've had difficulty tracing someone on one site I can often find them on another and find the entry has been mis-read or mis-transcribed, but if there's only one version of 1881 (and always will be) what chance...? Paul

    3. Paul I can't give you a definite answer, but an incorrect transcription I found several years ago on the LDS site still shows up in Ancestry. The FMP site does have the correct transcription so it is possible they have done their own. I seem to remember they made quite a thing of doing new scans of the original images, but I don't remember whether or not they mentioned a new transcription. And it is even possible I brought the error to their attention myself. So not much help I'm afraid. George
