Tel: 01303.862368. Website: http://www.historyresearch.co.uk for sharing this information. I shall post further details as I receive them. Cressida Williams has written to me to say, The Cathedral's Receiver-General (administrator) has asked me to let you know that the Dean and Chapter has decided to close the Cathedral Archives from the end of January 2012 for a period of at least 7 months because of the need to carry out essential repair to the building's roofs. The Receiver-General has written to the Chief Executive of Canterbury City Council and to the Vice-Chancellors of Canterbury Christ Church University and the University of Kent to notify them of this closure. Project planning for the closure and related works has only just started, and there is no date for re-opening. When it does open again, the Archives will be a fully Dean and Chapter operated facility. The Receiver-General appreciates that this is unexpected news, but the state of the building necessitates this closure.
