I'm planning on doing the same thing to get my my dad's WW2 records. He was in the Navy and hardly ever talked about it. Sadly, my dad is no longer with us. I have the address to write to - from TNA - but there is a time limit I believe, only so many years after they died, and I will have to prove a) that he is dead and b) I am a descendant. As for the medals, I believe that we cannot get replacement medals as his DSC was sadly stolen twice in his lifetime, and the medal office will not supply replacements again. I'm always hoping that one day it might turn up, but I haven't really looked for it yet, to be honest. I hope this helps.
