He passed away on November 2 at the age of 71. Jay served his country in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific in 1944 during World War II, and was honorably discharged. Many outdoor activities were enjoyed by Jay. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing and was an avid bird watcher who charted many different species sighted in and around the Kern County area. Jay enjoyed his roses and the many dear friends he knew in Tehachapi. His employer and fellow employees at Benz Propane, where he worked for many years, were among Jay's dearest friends. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Richard Tatum, Jay is survived by a brother, Robert Tatum (wife Linda), of Bakersfield; sister, Evelyn Cavin (husband Ray) of Cayucos; nieces and nephews: Rick Gavin, Dewayne Gavin, and Michele Tatum, Garcia, all of Bakersfield, Richard Tatum of Ukiah and Rod Tatum of San Ramon. The family wants to express a special thanks to Shawn Robinson, Jay's care-giver and to Larry Christy, a dear friend who was like a brother. At Jay's request, no services will be held and his cremains will be scattered at sea. He is with God. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements. Sharon Kern Co Volunteer
