Gene Clark, minister of the Church of Christ in Wasco, officiated. Interment followed in Shafter Memorial Park. Mr. Byrd, a native of Okla., has resided in Shafter 35 years. He was a shipping and receiving clerk fro Calbiochem of Wasco and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include the widow Betty; two sons, Kenneth of Bakersfield and Anthony of Shafter; daughter, Linda Ballengee of Shafter; three brothers, Floyd of Wasco, Cecil and Epo of Shafter; sister Dessie Sharp of Wasco. Pallbearers were Ronnie Clement, Virgil Chappell, Hershel Riddle, Levi Linn, Robert Miller, and Bill Usery. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert Coward and Earl Monday.
