The Rev. Rick Gilbertson will officiate and interment will follow at the Arvin Cemetery, South Kern District. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8809 will conduct military rites. Troy Turley was born Jan 9, 1930 in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Troy and Vivian Turley, and after the Turley family moved to Arvin in the 1940s, he attended the Kern High School District. Troy served his country in the armed forces as a military policeman and immediately after World War II, was honorably dischrged in 1949. He then attended Bakersfield College where he obtained his associate of arts degree. On June 30, 1951, he married Wanda Pender and lived in Arvin until 1961 when the Turleys decided to move to Rogue River, Ore. There, Troy served as a volunteer fireman and conducted public Civil Defense classes. During that time he also worked for Georgia Pacific. In 1962 the family returned to Arvin where Troy worked with his parents at their grocery store, The Desert Trading Post. He was last employed by Land and Marine Tank Service from 1979 until 1989 and served as an Arvin Union School board member from 1976 until 1988. Troy was also a member of the Masons Caldonian Lodge and served as choir director of the Free Will Baptist Church until 1979. He was preceded in death by his father in 1968 and his mother Vivian in 1995. He is survived by his wife Wanda of Bakersfield; son Troy Turley, III of Bakersfield; daughters, Kellea Belle Garcia and her husband Antonio and Mary Dawn Catton all of Bakersield; and four grandchildren.
