Many of our list subscribers have family and friends interred in the Savannah Pioneer Cemetery in Rosemead. This cemetery, which began operation as early as 1846, holds much of the history of the San Gabriel Valley. This small cemetery is threatened with abandonment, and officials have discussed removing the headstones and turning the land into a memorial park. This is simply unconscionable. A group of family members, officials, and interested individuals have joined forces to prevent the abandonment of this Southern California treasure. The Cemetery Board, family members, El Monte and Rosemead city officials, and other interested parties will meet at the El Monte Historical Museum this Saturday, July 15th at 9:00 a.m. El Monte Historical Museum at 3150 N Tyler Ave, El Monte, CA 91731. Phone (626) 444-3813 Donna Crippen, Curator Please attend this meeting on Saturday to lend your support for the continued operation of the Savannah Pioneer Cemetery. http://savannahpioneercem.blogspot.com/
