Here is the obit you requested for the following person: COMBS GOLDIE MARIE born: 12/12/1908 F TEXAS mother: REEDER father: BAILEY died: KERN 03/29/1990 age: 81 yrs requested by: leesh@valornet.com The Bakersfield Californian newspaper Sunday, April 2, 1990 COMBS, Goldie Marie Underwood - Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday in the Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel for Goldie Marie Underwood Combs, 81, who passed away March 29 in Bakersfield after a long illness. pastor Rohde and Pastor Vinson of Canyon Hills Assembly of God will officiate and eulogies will be offered by Steve Arvizu and opal Brown. Burial will follow in the Arvin District Cemetery. Goldie was born in Leroy, Texas on Dec. 12, 1908. She married R.C. "Bob" Underwood in May 1924. Bob and Goldie moved to California in 1938 and settled in the Arvin area, bringing with them four young daughters. A short time later, they were blessed with birth of a fifth child, an only son. Raising a granddaughter from infancy was a special joy to the couple. She became one of their own. Bob preceded Goldie in death Sept 30, 1985, after 62 years together. Following his loss, Goldie found comfort and companionship in a second marriage to Ed Combs of Arvin. Although their union was brief, as the Lord called Ed home within the year, each of them found in each other a source of strength and relief from the loneliness. Goldie was a "born again Christian." Her faith in God sustained her and her family during her long and painful illness. She was a long-time member of Canyon Hills Assembly of God. She and Bob joined and enjoyed worshiping there for many years, when it was known as Bethel Assembly. Left to mourn her passing, but to keep in our hearts always are: daughters, Vicki Fiddelke of Upland, Pat Futrell of Lasker N.C., Wanda Pittman, Shirley Stamfield and Sandy Arvizu and a son, Larry Underwood, all of Bakersfield; sisters, Ova Bradshaw of Lancaster and Eva Flowers of Colorado. She also leaves 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, a special loving friend, Lee Dempsy and her newly 'adopted' daughter Angie Alvarez, who lovingly cared for her during her last few months. Casketbearers will be Marvin Fiddelke, Steve Arvizu, Ron Stanfield, Dan McFadzean, Steve Underwood and John McElroy. Visitation will be today until 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary. "Heaven has a new angel today, God called our dear mother and has taken her away. To be with loved ones who have gone on before, Oh what a joyous reunion on that heavenly shore. Mother is happy now, and she is free of all pain, and we know that she is with our sweet daddy again. She is safe now with Jesus, wrapped in his love; our mother is home at last, in heaven above." "Thank you god, for lending her to us." Hillcrest Mortuary Funeral Directors. Sharon Kern Co. Volunteer
