Hello, I have just rejoined to ask if anyone knows anything about the families of siblings, John S. LEWIS and Mrs. Helen TALMADGE, who moved to CA around 1930 and seem to have settled in Gardena ! They were 2 of 13 siblings growing up in Stoneham, MA. After the deaths of their parents, John "Stanley" LEWIS and Mary (CORKILL) LEWIS, in 1923 and 1924, the siblings seem to each go their separate way ! John LEWIS seems to have gone out to CA as a single, young man and married Genevieve Grace HAMILTON out there. They had several children, and John died there in the 1960's. _____ and Helen (LEWIS) TALMADGE seem to have married in or near Stoneham, MA, and gone out to Gardena, CA, within a few years after. They did have children. Helen died during the 1980's, I believe, and her husband's name was not mentioned in the death-notice. So, my guess is that, either he died young or they had divorced. This year I requested a look-up from the Gardena Library, and they very kindly worked hard and found the death notices of John and Genevieve LEWIS and of Mrs. Helen TALMADGE. I can post the information from them at another time if anyone is interested. For several years I have been trying to complete a list of the 13 siblings, with their spouses and children's names. Since as adults they were not really close, this has been a difficult challenge. The parents, John "Stanley" LEWIS and Mary CORKILL were born in Liverpool, England, and in 1874 were "shipped to Canada" as "British Home Children." They married in Truro, NS, in 1879, and in 1881 migrated to Massachusetts. I believe the other 11 siblings remained in New England, but I still cannot find some of them after the 1920's ! Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. My grandfather was one of the younger of the 13 siblings, and John was his younger brother.
