Hello, I'd just like to post a general query about KIDDER's in CA ! Most KIDDER's in the U.S. are descended from the patriarch, James KIDDER (1626-1676) of Cambridge and Billerica, MA. He and his wife (Anna MOORE) had 12 children, and some of their children had 12 children, and so the story continued. In 1941 the NEHGS published a book on the descendants of "Ensign James KIDDER" and it is a very good reference. For at least 12 years, George KIDDER in FL has been trying to update that book. He is in the last stages of preparing a manuscript of the "updated version" to go off to a publisher at the end of the year (hopefully). If anyone has KIDDER information which might not be in the KIDDER book, and would like to see it included in the new version, please contact George. This is his KIDDER web site and his contact information is there: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1255/1255.htm I'd also like to mention that I had a great-uncle who left New England, probably in the 1950's, and went to CA ! When his mother, Mrs. Louise (RICE) KIDDER, died in her home-town of Winchester, MA, in 1958, he wrote to say that he was then living in Riverside, CA. His name was George "Sanford" KIDDER, Jr., b1904 Winchester, MA. He didn't remain close to his family after he became an adult, so we know very little about him. But, I did find out that he died in Riverside in the 1960's. I requested a look-up for his "death notice" and found out it mentioned a wife and children ! I'm fairly positive this would have been a wife and step-children. I don't have the information handy, but the lady seems to have been a widow from Nova Scotia, and I believe her children had been born in Nova Scotia. (If anyone is interested, I will pull out my folder of papers on "Uncle Sanford" and retrieve the names.) Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: Great-uncle, Sanford, had a nephew, Silas "Dean" LEWIS, Jr., who also left New England around 1950. In fact, he "disappeared without a trace." It was only through the Internet that we found out that Uncle Dean died in Phoenix, AZ, in the 1990's ! "Dean" LEWIS' obituary also mentioned "children" (probably step-children), but did not mention a wife. He probably lived in or near Phoenix for quite a while, but we don't know where he lived from 1950 .. to say the 1970's ! And, we don't know whether Uncle Dean and Uncle Sanford "traveled west" together ! (My father's brother, and their uncle.)
