A few days ago, I posted a notice that the Southern California Genealogical Society had obtained a free trial to the Historical Los Angeles Times newspaper online. Today I am posting to report that the free trial has ended because, in less than a week, we reached the number of hits allowable for our the trial. This tells me that there is a great deal of demand for this valuable, interesting online resource. Unfortunately, though, many users didn't get a chance to use the system because we reached the limit so quickly. Now, I have a question for those of you who took advantage of the free trial, as well as those of you who missed out: Would access to this online database be enough to motivate you to come to the SCGS Library in Burbank and do your research wearing something other than pajamas? Keep in mind that the Library also holds 30,000 genealogical reference books, CDs, maps, periodicals, manuscripts, and family histories, representing every state and many countries. SCGS members also have free access to the Ancestry Library Edition as well as other online databases, but these assets are available only onsite at the SCGS Library. The library is open to the public; use of the online databases is free to SCGS members. So...would you use this resource if you had to leave home to use it? Feel free to direct your answers to me off-list. Thanks. Paula P.S. - The Ancestry Library Edition and Historical Newspapers Database, including the Los Angeles Times, will be available for use by visitors to the Tech Zone at the SCGS-sponsored Genealogy Jamboree in Burbank on Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6, 2006.
